Tucson doctors to lead public on walks - Arizona Daily Star
New Year's fitness resolutions often start fizzling right around now. Three local health organizations are offering help.
Walk With A Doc is part of a national movement to get patients to walk a mile with a physician on the first three Saturdays of every month.
The local program began Saturday and will continue through May.
"All of our missions involve improving public health," said Steve Nash, executive director of the Pima County Medical Society, which is one of the sponsor groups. "We want our neighbors all to become more active and one way to do that is to show them that they indeed can walk a mile."
The next walk is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday at the Rillito River Park.
Each of the three groups will host one walk on three different Saturdays every month at least through May.
Each walk will be led by a physician who will give a brief overview of the benefits of exercise and answer general questions during the walk.
The walks are open to anyone and the courses are generally flat with some small hills. Wear comfortable shoes. You may bring a cane or walking stick, and a bottle of water. Be sure to dress for the temperatures.
Walk schedules are posted at pimamedicalsociety.org and organizers ask that participants arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the walk start.
